Specialty "Midwife"

The specialty "Midwife" is a regulated profession from the professional field "Health care". The diploma gives the right to practice the profession "Midwife".

Training in the specialty is a regular form and is conducted according to curricula and programs that meet national and European standards. The course of study includes the study of medico-biological, humanitarian, clinical disciplines, general and special nursing and midwifery care. Theoretical training is carried out through compulsory, elective and optional courses in the form of lectures, seminars, practical exercises and independent work. The practical training takes place in medical facilities that have received a positive accreditation assessment and is realized through clinical practice and pre-graduate internship.

The level of professional qualification corresponds to the modern achievements of medical science and practice. The midwife's profession requires dynamism, security and opportunities to work under conditions of emotional stress and intellectual tension. Midwifery students learn the necessary theoretical knowledge and acquire the necessary practical skills and competences to be able to provide obstetric care, both at the level of individuals and their families, and at the group level. The professional training allows the midwife, independently and assuming full responsibility to the extent necessary, except in pathological cases, to monitor the prenatal phase and provide prenatal care, childbirth and subsequent manipulations, postnatal care and resuscitate a newborn until the arrival of a doctor. In the course of their studies, students of the "Midwife" specialty acquire not only high professional qualifications and general culture, but also the moral and ethical qualities so necessary for practicing the profession.

Harmonizing the training of Midwives with Directive 2005/36/EC and Directive 2013/55/EU on the recognition of professional qualifications is a prerequisite for the future convertibility of diplomas.

Graduates of the educational-qualification degree "Bachelor" in the specialty of regulated professions Midwife have the opportunity for continuing education in the educational-qualification degree "Master", educational and scientific degree "Doctor", as well as acquiring a specialty.

Specialty "Nurse"

The specialty "Nurse" is a regulated profession from the professional field "Health care". The diploma gives the right to practice the profession of "Nurse".

Training in the specialty is a regular form and is conducted according to curricula and programs that meet national and European standards. The course of study includes the study of medico-biological, humanities, clinical disciplines, general and special nursing care. Theoretical training is carried out through compulsory, elective and optional courses in the form of lectures, seminars, practical exercises and independent work. The practical training takes place in medical facilities that have received a positive accreditation assessment and is realized through clinical practice and pre-graduate internship.

The level of professional qualification corresponds to the modern achievements of medical science and practice. The profession of a nurse requires dynamism, security and opportunities to work under conditions of emotional load and intellectual tension. Nursing is focused on assisting the individual, family, or community in achieving or maintaining optimal health and life. The focus of nursing is the holistic care of the person, including health promotion, maintenance, treatment and recovery, support and terminal care for individuals of different age groups.

Graduates of the specialty have wide opportunities for professional realization in medical facilities for outpatient care; specialized or multi-profile medical facilities for hospital care: hospitals for active treatment, hospitals for further treatment and long-term treatment, hospitals for long-term treatment and rehabilitation; emergency medical centers; mental health centers; centers for skin and venereal diseases; complex oncology centers; medical, medical-dental and diagnostic-consultative centers; homes for medico-social care and hospices; school health care; services for labor discipline, etc.

Specialty "Health Care Management"

Professional qualification: "Head of health care and practice teacher" Study period: 1.5 years (3 semesters)

Specialization for EQD "Master" Health care management from the professional field of Public Health was developed in accordance with the institutional development strategy of Ruse University "Angel Kanchev". The mission, goals and tasks of FPHHC and training in the specialty Health care management from the regulated professions are in accordance with national and European regulations.The prospects for the development of the specialty are aimed at the training of medical specialists with qualifications adequate to European requirements.Мисията на специалност ОКС магистър Управление на здравните грижи е да осигури високо квалифицирани професионалисти в условията на променяща се социална, икономическа и здравна среда.  

The goals of the specialty are:

• training of professionals with the necessary knowledge, skills and competences to occupy management positions in medical institutions, nurseries, social homes and other medical and social structures. Conducting practical training of students from specialties: Nurse and Midwife;

• formation of skills for independent professional work, communication and team interaction in planning, organizing and carrying out the activities;усвояване на теоретични знания, практически умения и компетентности за самостоятелни дейности и работа в екип;

• acquisition of professional competence for assessment, planning and implementation of activities in the field of health care management in medical institutions and medical and social structures;

• formation of personal qualities, communication skills, teamwork skills necessary for the profession of manager and teacher. 

The duration of training corresponds to Art. 3, item 2 and item 3. of the REGULATION on the uniform state requirements for acquiring higher education in the specialty "Health Care Management" for the educational and qualification degrees "Master" and "Bachelor" from the professional field "Public Health", Adopted with DMC No. 215 of 18.08.2006, promulgated, No. 70 of 29.08.2006, in force from the academic year 2006 - 2007, amended, No. 87 of 7.10.2008.

According to the Ordinance, the duration of study is 1.5 years, 3 semesters with the duration of the semesters being 15 weeks for the first and second semesters and 10 weeks for the third semester for a regular form of study, and for a part-time form - the minimum hours for the compulsory study disciplines is ½ of provided for in the regular form curriculum.

The Ordinance was adopted on the basis of Art. 177 of the Health Act and Art. 9, para. 3, item 5 of the Law on Higher Education, (last amended and supplemented SG No. 17 of February 25, 2020).

Education in the field of Health Care Management includes the study of managerial, pedagogical, legal, psychological, etc. scientific directions. The disciplines are arranged in a logical sequence and provide the necessary input-output connections both among themselves and with the other disciplines. The course material provides a large amount of theoretical and factual knowledge in the field of health care management. New achievements in the field of health care will be achieved by introducing appropriate electives and by regularly holding annual seminars, conferences, open days, specialty days, holding student scientific forums and competitions at the university and faculty level.

The training in the specialty Healthcare Management provides clearly expressed expected results in the form of knowledge, skills and competences, according to the criteria set in the NKR of the Republic of Bulgaria, adopted with PMS No. 96/02.02.2012.
