The Department of "Mathematics" is responsible for the teaching of mathematical disciplines for all engineering and economic majors at the University of Ruse and the major "Mathematics and Informatics", accredited in 2007. It succeeded the departments of "Algebra and Geometry" and "Mathematical Analysis" in 2012.

The department is responsible for teaching the Master's courses:

  • Information and Educational Technology since 2008;
  • Information Technology in Mathematics and Informatics Education since 2010;
  • Mathematical Modeling in Engineering since 2011.

The doctoral programs are also accredited:

  • Mathematics Teaching Methodology,
  • Differential Equations and Mathematical Modeling and Applications of Mathematics.

The department consists of 19 professors and one administrative secretary, 1 of whom is a professor, doctor of sciences, 8 are associate professors, 6 are senior assistants, 4 of whom are doctors, 4 are assistants. 6 doctoral students are studying at the department.

The mission and goals of the department are high-quality education of students and doctoral students, work with motivated and talented students, effective and internationally recognized scientific research and international integration.

The scientific researches of the "Mathematics" department are in the following areas:

  • Computational algebra, Structural theory of rings, Algebras with polynomial identities;
  • Geometric transformations and computer graphics;
  • Differential equations and their applications, Nonlinear analysis;
  • Mathematical modeling in economics and natural sciences;
  • Mathematical education, Training of gifted pupils and students, Mathematical competitions;
  • Mathematical and computational linguistics;
  • Recognition and radar systems.
     
    Lecturers from the department have participated in international projects related to scientific work and exchange of teachers and students with universities from Austria, England, Belgium, Greece, Estonia, Israel, Spain, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Poland, Portugal, Romania, USA, Slovakia, Hungary, etc.

Members of the department have taken part in the organization of various forums such as the International Conference "Numerical Methods and Applications", the NODDEA International Conference and Seminars, competitions and Olympics in Mathematics and Informatics. Students, guided by teachers of the department, are awarded with honors and diplomas from Olympiads, competitions and scientific sessions.
